63 SharesFacebookTweetPinLinkedIn In just a few short years, Capital One 360 has become a major player in the banking game. Most of its business is conducted online and through its cellphone app. Capital One 360's checking and savings accounts are free to open and maintain, and they require no minimum balance. However, although its rates are higher than what you'll find at many local banks, "interest rate junkies" might prefer to look elsewhere, since other online banks offer more competitive APYs.
Withdrawal: Manual (monitored for 116 days) As a result of online forums and monitoring sites which have made HYIP "investors" more aware of their nature, some HYIP operators promote their programs as a "ponzi-structured game" where one should "not invest money one cannot afford to lose", and where there is "never a guarantee of earnings or refunds". They promise to pay out up to, for example, 95% of deposits, the rest going to hosting or other fees and the owner's profit. In such "games", the first participants ("investors") may make a good profit and are encouraged to refer other people to the program because of referral commission, the fact that they have already made back their principal and are playing with profit, and that the more people who deposit money, the more money can be paid out to participants. In theory, strategies can be developed to maximize profit using these games (but, of course, since this is a zero-sum game, such strategies work by taking advantage of ignorance or errors by others). Some forum users may gain a reputation whereby others will trust their word that they have been able to withdraw their profits, encouraging others to invest in the hopes that more will invest after them and that they can therefore make a profit. As these games are by definition Ponzi schemes, it is inevitable that the majority of participants who are not at the top of the pyramid will lose their money. These "games" might be considered as lotteries. However, the odds of winning cannot be determined, as one cannot know whether one is playing early enough to win money (that is, whether a sufficient number of new participants will follow). Thus, these activities are unlike a lottery or other forms of regulated gambling, where a participant has an equal chance of winning no matter when a ticket is bought, or where the odds of the game are known. HYIP programs generally appeal to the same kind of person who is attracted to gambling. Like gambling, HYIP "games" are a way of separating the participant from his money, while offering a small chance of making a profit. This accounts for their rapid proliferation.

However, not all high yield dividend stocks are safe. Let’s review what high dividend stocks are, where stocks with high dividends can be found in the market, and how to identify which high dividends are risky.
Don’t Leave It Too Accessible. Although you want your money where you can get it when you need it, you don’t want it to be too easy to access. If you keep all your savings in your checking account, it’s easy to dip into them for everyday expenses, eating away at the balance. Putting them in a separate account, such as a savings or money market account, means you can’t get at them without making a transfer first. That helps you keep a clear division in your mind between your checking balance, which is for day-to-day use, and your savings, which are for big expenses – planned or unplanned.
A two-person show. They ferret out high yields that are pretty uncommon–but they underestimate the risk, or at least don’t explain the risk. Like everything, high risk is high reward–and in this market you’re likely to go bust. But I compliment them on finding some pretty unusual situations. Buyer beware.
On August 17, 2012, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a complaint against defendants Paul Burks and Zeek Rewards, based in North Carolina. Paul Burks ran Zeek Rewards, an investment opportunity that promised investors returns by sharing in the profits of Zeekler, a penny auction website. Money invested in Zeek Rewards earned returns of 1.5% per day. Investors were encouraged to let their gains compound and to recruit new members into a "forced matrix" to increase their returns. The SEC contends that this forced matrix payout scheme constitutes a pyramid scheme. New investors had to pay a monthly subscription fee of between US$10 and US$99, and provide an initial investment of up to $10,000. The higher the initial investment, the higher the returns appeared. The SEC stated that the Zeekler website brought in only about 1% of the Zeek Rewards company's purported income and that the vast majority of disbursed funds were paid from new investments. The SEC alleges that Zeek Rewards is a $600 million Ponzi scheme affecting 1 million investors, which would be one of the largest Ponzi schemes in history by number of affected investors. A court-appointed receiver estimated that the $600 million amount could be "on the low end" and that the number of investors could be as many as 2 million. Paul Burks paid $4 million to the SEC and agreed to cooperate with its investigation. In February 2017 Burks was sentenced to 14 years and 8 months' imprisonment for his part in Zeek Rewards.

Banks were able to give you 10% APY on your savings because they were passing on some of the transaction fees from the debit card.

The more you deposit, the less you have to pay This has been a difficult industry for the past few years, with several mREITs lowering their distributions over the past 52 weeks. Which is why the VanEck Vectors Mortgage REIT Income ETF (MORT) has sported a lower nominal payout over its past four distributions than the previous four, which were less than the four before that!
